Előoldalukon a külső körgyűrűben találhatóak a kötelező érmeképi elemek: felső köriratban a „MAGYARORSZÁG” felirat, alsó köriratban a 10 000 illetve a 2000 forint értékjelzés, bal oldalon a „2017” verési évszám, jobb oldalon a különleges mikroírással készült biztonsági elemet tartalmazó „BP.” verdejel. Az előoldal középmezője egy XIX. századi tábori kórházi jelenetet ábrázol, utalva Kossuth Zsuzsannának az 1848-49-es forradalom és szabadságharc során nyújtott áldozatos munkájára, amelynek eredményeként három hónap alatt 72 tábori kórház létesült, ahol a betegellátás színvonala Európaszerte egyedülállóan magas volt. Női önkénteseket toborzott a betegek ellátására illetve az ápolást segítő eszközök készítésére. Kossuth Zsuzsannát bátyja, Kossuth Lajos nevezte ki 1849-ben „az összes tábori kórházak főápolónőjének”: benne tisztelhetjük a legelső katonai kórházakat létesítő és felügyelő női ápolót, amire az emlékérme hátoldalán megjelenő feliratok („KOSSUTH ZSUZSANNA” és „HAZÁNK ELSŐ FŐÁPOLÓJA”) is utalnak. Itt szerepel a fiatalon elhunyt főápoló születési és halálozási éve: 1817-1854. Az emlékérmét Erőss Ildikó szobrászművész tervezte.
