Az előoldal fő motívuma a Margit-szigeti Domonkos-rendi apácakolostor romjainak egy mostani részlete. A vesztes muhi csatát követően született királylányt szülei isteni szolgálatra ajánlották fel, és 3 éves korától a veszprémi domonkos rendi apácák nevelték. IV. Béla 1252-ben építtetett kolostort a Nyulak szigetén (mai Margit-sziget), ahol Margit 1254-ben örökfogadalmat tett, és domonkos apácaként élt 1270-ben bekövetkezett haláláig. A hátlap központi eleme Szent Margit félalakos ábrázolása, ami Simone Martini Assissiben található Szent Margit freskója alapján készült. A Szent ábrázolása körül megjelenített oszlopok a zárt és nyitott tér képzetét hivatottak alakítani, utalva ezzel Szent Margit élethivatására, a kolostori bezárkózás és a közügyekben való részvétel kettősségére. Szent Margit a korára jellemzően, apácaként sem vonult el a közügyektől, fontos közéleti és diplomáciai szerepet játszott. A XIV. század elejéig a kolostorok nem jelentettek teljes elzárkózást a világtól. Befolyásos, nemesi származású hölgyek éltek itt, így az apácák levelezések, tanácskozások révén meghatározó közéleti tevékenységet folytattak.
