Description

Mohamed V an-Nasir, better known as Naceur Bey, was the twenty-fifth Husaynid Bey of Tunisia, who ruled from 1906 to 1922. He was born on July 14, 1855 in the city of La Marsa. His father was Muhammad II ibn al-Husayn. During the time of Naceur Bey, Tunisia was under the French protectorate, and during his reign several conflicts arose with the French authorities and the local population. The Jellaz Affair of 1912 and the Tunis Tram Boycott, for example, were significant events during this period. In 1922, when France did not implement the desired reforms, Naceur Bey threatened to abdicate, but he finally yielded to the military appearance of the French authorities. Naceur Bey died on July 8, 1922, and was buried in the Tourbet el Bey mausoleum in Tunis. He was succeeded by Muhammad VI al-Habib.
