Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, was born on July 15, 1946. He ascended the throne on 5 October 1967 after the abdication of his father, Sir Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien. His coronation was on August 1, 1968. Like his father, he was knighted by II. Britain's Queen Elizabeth.Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the richest monarchs in the world and is famous for his huge car collection, which includes more than 5,000 luxury cars, including rare and unique models. On 29 July 1965, the Sultan married his first cousin, Princess Pengiran Anak Saleha, who later became Raja Isteri (Queen). in Istana Darul Hana. His second wife, Mariam Abdul Aziz (formerly Pengiran Isteri), is a former flight attendant with the national carrier, Royal Brunei Airlines. She divorced him in 2003, stripping him of all royal titles. In August 2005, he was replaced by a former Malaysian TV3 presenter, Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim, who is 33 years younger than the Sultan. They divorced in 2010 and, like Mariam Abdul Aziz, the Sultan stripped her of all titles, honors and monthly allowances. He is also known to have an adopted daughter with Mariam named Afifa Abdullah.
