Rama X, also known as Maha Vajiralongkorn, ascended the throne of Thailand in 2016 after his father, King IX. Rama (Bhumibol Adulyadej) has passed away. The coronation of the new king was held only in May 2019, as he wanted to mourn his father first. King Rama is one of the richest rulers in the world, his fortune is estimated at more than 70 billion dollars. During his reign in Thailand, the royal family and respect for the king are strictly protected, and anyone who criticizes him is severely punished. There is also much debate about King Rama's personal life, and critics harshly criticize his lifestyle and authoritarian style.
Minting information
King Rama X of Thailand took the throne in 2016, his father IX. After the death of Rama. The royal mint issued new coins to mark his accession to the throne, featuring the portrait of Rama X. The coins were made in different denominations and materials such as gold, silver, nickel and copper. On the reverse side of the coins is the Thai coat of arms, the Garuda, and the king's name and title in Thai. The coins went into circulation in 2018 and the old coins were phased out.
