Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah, often referred to simply as Emir Jaber al-Ahmad, was the ruler of Kuwait from 1977 to 2006. During his life and reign, many important events and changes took place in the history of Kuwait. Jaber al-Ahmad came to the throne in 1977 after the death of his predecessor, Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah. During his reign, Kuwait won its independence from Great Britain and entered the world stage as an independent country. During the reign of Emir Jaber al-Ahmad, Kuwait's economy underwent significant development. The country became rich through its oil resources, and the emir supported economic modernization and infrastructure development. The emir actively participated in the reform of the Kuwaiti financial system. Serious changes have also taken place in the field of coinage. The Kuwaiti state coat of arms and government motto appeared on the coins, as well as the year of minting. The Kuwait-Iraq war (1990-1991) broke out during the reign of Jaber al-Ahmad, when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Jaber al-Ahmad died in 2006 and his successor, Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, took the throne.
