Description

Ferdinand was born in 1633. His father was German-Roman Emperor Ferdinand III, his mother was Maria Anna of Spain. Ferdinand was his father's favorite child, so he was included in the governing life as a child.

In 1646, his father crowned him King of Bohemia, and then he was elected King of Hungary for a year. He became German king in 1653. His motto: Deo et populo, meaning for God and the people.

Ferdinand died young, in 1654. After his death, his father returned to the throne, and later his younger brother, Archduke Leopold, became the king.

ARC. Ferdinand (1633-1654) was a member of the Habsburg dynasty who ruled from 1646 to 1654. ARC. Different types of coinage were in use during Ferdinand's time, including gold, silver and copper coins. The most common denominations of silver coins were 1 larger thaler and 30 krajcár. At the beginning of his reign, in 1646, Ferdinand still minted the traditional thalers. ARC. In the later stages of Ferdinand's reign, in the 1650s, silver coins called Guldiner were minted. These coins had a significant silver content. IV. During Ferdinand's reign, the Habsburg Empire was recovering from the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and was trying to restore its economy and financial system. This period was also an era of hyperinflation, when money completely lost its value due to wartime conditions and huge coinages.
