Description

Mustafa III ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1757 until his death. The first period of his reign was characterized by peace, but in the Russo-Turkish war, several conflicts unfolded between him and Catherine II with the Russian Tsarina. The Turks were defeated in the first war. The Russians invaded Havasföld and Moldavia and established their power. Mustafa was a ruler with a strong hand. He tried to modernize his army to bring his Empire up to the level of Western European powers. But his efforts failed. He ordered the construction of the mathematics and navigation academies. He died in 1774 after a reign of 17 years. He was succeeded on the throne by his brother Abdul-Hamid I.

He was born as the son of Ahmed in 1717 and ascended the throne in 1757 after his cousin III. Osman passed away. Mustafa was an energetic ruler and tried to modernize the army, but the Ottoman Empire was already in such decline that his efforts only provoked a revolt by the Janissaries .During his reign, several types of coins were minted, some of which are as follows: The akçe was a small silver coin used in different areas of the empire. These coins were of smaller denominations and were used in everyday trade. A kuruş was a silver or copper coin minted in different periods of the empire. Later it formed the basis of the Turkish lira. Mustafa III. He died on January 21, 1774, after a reign of about 17 years.
