Prince Charles I, (August 1, 1713 - March 26, 1780) was the ruler of the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, he was on the throne between 1735 and 1780. I. During the reign of Prince Charles, several important political and cultural changes took place in the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. I. Károly contributed to the economic and military development of the principality. During his administration, the administration and legal system were modernized. The duke supported culture and science, for example by establishing the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel. The Herzog August Library was one of the most important libraries of the time, with rich manuscripts and with printed works. The prince also supported art and musical performances. The mentioned changes contributed to the development and cultural richness of the principality.
Minting information
Prince Charles I (1713-1780) was the ruler of the Principality of Brunswick-Wölfenbüttel of the German States from 1735 until his death. During his minting, he issued several coins, the best known of which were the thalers, ducats and pfennigs. Tallers were made of silver, ducats were made of gold, and pfennigs were made of copper. The value of thalers was 24 pfennigs, and the value of ducats was 12 thalers. Coins usually featured the prince's portrait, coat of arms, name and year of reign. The mint was located in Wolfenbüttel, where the duke also had a palace built. The purpose of coinage was to promote the economic development of the principality and to express the power and authority of the prince.
