Széchenyi a reformkori politikai küzdelmek vezéralakja, a hazai polgári átalakulás első programadó egyénisége, akinek nevéhez a magyar gazdaság és közélet, a közlekedés, európai kapcsolataink, a tudományok anyanyelvi fejlesztése és a sport területén végrehajtott jelentős reformkezdeményezések fűződnek. Az emlékérme előoldalán fő motívumként az általa alapított Magyar Tudományos Akadémia épülete jelenik meg, előterében parkrészlet és Engel József Széchenyi István szobrának ábrázolása látható. A szobor érmeképi elemként történő megjelenése ritkaságnak számít. Széchenyi István félalakos ábrázolása látható, háttérben az első magyarországi vasútvonal menetrendjének részletével, felette egy gőzmozdony ábrázolásával. A háttérben megjelenő motívum arra utal, hogy Széchenyi az 1848-ban megalakult Batthyány-kormány közlekedési minisztereként kidolgoztatta hazánk első országos vasúthálózatának tervét. Az emlékérme-kibocsátás apropóját a felső félköriratban olvasható „225 ÉVE SZÜLETETT SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN” felirat világítja meg. A Magyar Nemzeti Bank Széchenyi István születésének 225. évfordulója alkalmából 20 000 forintos címletű ezüst emlékérmét, valamint annak 2000 forintos címletű színesfém változatát bocsátja ki 2016. szeptember 21-én. Az emlékérmék rendhagyó címlettel és mérettel jelennek meg, mintegy reflektálva Kossuth Széchenyiről írt jellemzésére: a legnagyobb ezüst emlékérme (átmérője 52,5 mm) „a magyarok legnagyobbikának”. Az emlékérmék további különlegessége, hogy recézett szélük egyedi kiosztású, a recék csoportosítása Széchenyi István születési évére utal, ezáltal tartalmat adva az érme „harmadik” oldalának.

Anlässlich des 225. Geburtstages von István Széchenyi wird die Magyar Nemzeti Bank am 21. September 2016 eine silberne Gedenkmünze mit einem Nennwert von 20.000 HUF und eine Nichteisenmetallversion mit einem Nennwert von 2.000 HUF ausgeben. Die Gedenkmünzen erscheinen mit einem ungewöhnlichen Nennwert und einer ungewöhnlichen Größe, als ob sie Kossuths Beschreibung von Széchenyi widerspiegeln würden: Die größte silberne Gedenkmünze (Durchmesser 52,5 mm) sei „die größte der Ungarn“. Eine weitere Besonderheit der Gedenkmünzen besteht darin, dass ihre Rändelränder eindeutig zugeordnet sind, die Gruppierung der Rändel auf das Geburtsjahr von István Széchenyi verweist und so der „dritten“ Seite der Münze einen Inhalt verleiht.

On the occasion of the 225th anniversary of the birth of István Széchenyi, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank will issue a silver commemorative coin with a denomination of HUF 20,000 and a non-ferrous metal version with a denomination of HUF 2,000 on September 21, 2016. The commemorative coins appear with an unusual denomination and size, as if reflecting Kossuth's description of Széchenyi: the largest silver commemorative coin (diameter 52.5 mm) is "the largest of the Hungarians". Another special feature of the commemorative coins is that their knurled edges are uniquely assigned, the grouping of the knurls refers to István Széchenyi's year of birth, thus giving content to the "third" side of the coin.

Las monedas conmemorativas aparecen con una denominación y tamaño inusuales, como si reflejaran la descripción de Széchenyi de Kossuth: la moneda conmemorativa de plata más grande (diámetro 52,5 mm) es "la más grande de los húngaros".
