Tinódi Sebestyén születésének 500. évfordulójára emlékérmét bocsát ki a Magyar Nemzeti Bank. Tinódi Sebestyén életéről igen keveset tudunk, születési évét a szakértők 1515 körülire teszik. A róla fennmaradt ismereteink leginkább a verseiből származnak. Alapvetően históriás énekek szerzőjeként tartjuk számon, költeményeinek zöme tudósító ének, jelenkorú eseményekről készített verses história. Pályatársai közül ő az egyetlen, aki a század során önálló kötetet adott ki „Cronica” címmel, 1554-ben. Históriáinak dallamát ő maga szerezte. A „Lantos” a latin „Lutinista” fordítása, amely a későbbi korokban terjedt el a köztudatban a nevéhez kötődően. Hiteles, korhű portréábrázolás nem maradt fenn róla. A nemesi címet I. Über das Leben von Sebestyén Tinódi wissen wir sehr wenig, Experten schätzen sein Geburtsjahr auf etwa 1515. Unser verbleibendes Wissen über ihn stammt größtenteils aus seinen Gedichten. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a commemorative coin for the 500th anniversary of Sebestyén Tinódi's birth. We know very little about Sebestyén Tinódi's life, experts place his year of birth around 1515. Our surviving knowledge of him comes mostly from his poems. Basically, we consider him the author of historical songs, most of his poems are narrative songs, poetic histories of contemporary events. He is the only one of his peers who published an independent volume entitled "Cronica" during the century, in 1554. He composed the melody of his stories himself. "Lantos" is a translation of the Latin "Lutinist", which spread in the public consciousness in later times due to its name. An authentic, contemporary portrait of him has not survived.
